Unity Surgical Center Performing Less Invasive Total Knee and Hip Joint Replacement

New Minimally Invasive Surgical Techniques for Total Knee and Hip Joint Replacement Press Release (26.13 KB)

Lafayette, Indiana; April 7, 2008-Unity Surgical Center, an outpatient multi-specialty surgical center, is successfully performing new minimally invasive surgical techniques for total knee and hip joint replacement. Only performed nationally by a small group of accomplished orthopaedic surgeons, this technique is one of the most recent innovations for joint replacements.
Typical knee and hip replacement surgery requires six to twelve weeks for patients to fully recover from what has been, historically, a traumatic surgical procedure. Dr. Daniel Daluga, a board certified surgeon with Lafayette Orthopaedic Clinic, is utilizing advanced implant technology and a technique developed by Wright Medical Group known as PATH. The PATH technique is designed to include a smaller incision and muscle sparing approach to knee and hip replacement surgery. When it comes to a successful recovery, what goes on underneath the incision is every bit as important as the size of the incision. Dr. Daluga's total knee and hip replacement patients at Unity Surgical Center are released less than 23 hours after surgery. Many of these patients are walking hours after surgery, some unassisted. As a result, the patients at Unity Surgical Center are able to shorten their recovery from months to a matter of days.
Dr. Daniel Daluga has performed minimally invasive surgery since 2004, and is committed to improving patient outcomes and enriching the entire joint replacement experience.
